How much does ISO 9001 certification cost in the UK?

There is no single price, because you are paying for three different things: the certification body’s audits, any outside help you choose to buy, and your own people’s time. Here is what drives each, and what we charge, since our prices are published.

The three costs

1. The certification body’s fees

The certification body (BSI, NQA, SGS and others) audits you and issues the certificate. Its fees are quoted per audit day, and the number of audit days depends on your headcount, the number of sites and the scope of what you make or do. Expect a quote for the initial certification audit (Stage 1 and Stage 2) and then for the surveillance audits in the years that follow. That fee is separate from anything we charge, and it is paid whether or not you use a consultant.

We do not quote a figure for it here: it is set per job by the body you choose. Ask two or three for a quote on the same information (headcount, sites and scope) so the numbers are comparable.

2. Consultancy, if you want it

Outside help is optional. What drives its cost is how far your current system is from the standard, how much of the work your own team will do, and whether you want someone to do the work or to check it. A business with working processes that are simply not written down needs far less than one starting from nothing.

3. Your own people’s time

The largest cost is often the one that never appears on an invoice: the time your quality lead, managers and operators spend on the system, the internal audits and the certification audits themselves. A consultant can reduce it; nothing removes it, because the system has to be yours.

What we charge: the worked example

Our prices are fixed and published (rate card effective September 2026). No VAT is added.

  • Day rate: £650 for a full on-site working day; £375 for a remote half-day.
  • Gap analysis against ISO 9001 or ISO 14001, including the ISO 14001:2026 transition: £650.
  • Audit rescue: £1,200 for two days after a difficult audit.
  • Supplier audit: £650 for a single critical supplier, with a written report.
  • GB MCL screen: £450.
  • Internal Audit Cover: £220 a month (four on-site internal audit days a year), or Internal Audit Cover Plus at £435 a month (eight on-site days a year, plus management review facilitation and surveillance-week support).
  • Interim quality manager cover: from £1,100 a week or £2,200 a month.
  • Founding-client rate: £495 a day for the first three clients who let us write up the work as a case study, until 31 December 2026.
  • Travel: no charge in Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire or London; elsewhere 45p a mile from Brighton, plus accommodation at cost where an overnight stay is needed.
For most single-site manufacturers the consultancy part starts with a £650 gap analysis: it tells you how far you are from the standard, which is what decides everything else.

ISO 14001 costs the same way

The same three costs apply to ISO 14001: certification body fees quoted on headcount, sites and scope; optional consultancy; and your own time. Our gap analysis covers either standard at the same £650, including the ISO 14001:2026 transition.

Where to go next

The audit cost and risk calculator lets you put your own numbers against an internal audit programme. How a gap analysis runs, and what the report looks like, is on the gap analysis page; every price is on the services page.
